Before launching, we spent months trying to find the perfect coffee bags.. the truth is, perfect packaging doesn’t exist! There are a lot of claims that simply don’t add up. Biodegradable, compostable, plastic, foil lined. Coffee bags require a high oxygen barrier, shielding from sunlight and a gas valve to stop coffee from degrading.

While compostable and biodegradable packaging will likely break down more easily, they will only do so if disposed of correctly and end up in facilities that are able to process them. This is not likely to be a home compost bin or landfill as the conditions may not be perfect.

We have opted for 100% plastic and certified Co2 neutral bags - meaning our coffee bags are 100% recyclable. However, still not perfect, these need to be disposed of correctly in order for them to be recycled, and you will need to check your local authorities if they can process. If not, they will need to be recycled at specialist facilities.

What we are doing to help?

1. We will accept used bags back either by post or drop off and we will send these off to be recycled properly.

2. Drop them off at your supermarket to be recycled along with carrier bags.

3. Come to our roastery and we will fill up your container with a discount!

We are not saying plastic is perfect, and we hope for better alternatives in the future!
